Chant the Names of God!
Sri Babaji traveled all over India in His recent public manifestation from 1970 to 1984. He visited most of the sacred places in India and when He arrived to Benares, the followers, kriyabans (practitioners of kriya yoga) and devotees of Lahiri Mahasaya recognized Him as Mahavatar Babaji and implored Him to show them more kriyas (kriya yoga techniques).
Sri Babaji then made them sit in rows and whispered in the ears of each and every one of them mantra Om namah Shivaya.
Thus He increased His mercy of giving kriya yoga to mankind by giving even more potent technique: Nama Japa (repetition of the Names of God).
He says:
"Have faith! Reciting the Name of the Lord is not the first, but the last stage of spiritual practice! When lions enter the forest, the other animals run away. Likewise, all evil thoughts will vanish with the recitation of the Lord's name. Reciting the Name of the Lord will bring you the company of a good people and you will be near saints. Blessed are the few who will discard the kingdom of the world for the Lord's name. Such a devotee always resides in My heart.
In the womb, you take a vow not to get attached; but as soon as you come out, you get entangled. Abandon attachment! Your mind plays tricks on you! That is why you are after pleasures! All worldly things - including the desire for liberation - are obstacles to which you are attached. If you want divine peace, leave behind ignorant karma."
Just a humble thought:
I practiced kriya yoga, as He taught me, for years. There was a time I sat in that practice for up to two hours a day on end (performing all kriyas),
and all I can say is that, while it is worth spending time on kriya, Nama japa (repetition of the Names of God) is more powerfull and more fulfilling to my heart by far.
Mahamantra is pure pure nectar to my stone-hard heart.
Bhole Baba ki JAI!
Hariiiiii Bol!
